Proud of our high score in
unannounced quality control inspection

It is commonly known that co-packers that handle food products have to adhere to strict standards. However, it can be called exceptional that Nomi Co-Packing recently managed to attain the highest score after the unannounced quality control inspection by assurance provider LRQA. Why? Quality Manager Wilfried Bogers and Quality Assurance Coordinator Dirk Schotanus explain.

Food safety is crucial

“Our production methods vary from manual packaging lines with frozen products to fully automated lines for dosing and packaging products mixing multiple flavours. Each day, we execute 2 to 3 product changes in flavour, BBD or we produce a completely new product, each with their own particular and new safety requirements. To us and to our customers food safety is crucial, which is why, as a team, we pay a lot of attention to this subject. We are really proud that in march of this year our efforts were rewarded with an AA+ score in the BRC-standard and 99,02% for IFS."

High quality through teamplay within our organisation

“Food safety - including the details of the packaging - in not the responsibility of the quality department alone. Our entire company is continuously working on this, from production and expedition to the technical department, customer support and management.  It's all about teamplay. This is the beauty of working at NOMI Co-Packing: we are a relatively large organisation, but as a team we know each other quite well and we help each other. Due to the many product changes, we spend a lot of our time in the production environment and we know precisely how we can maintain the highest quality level, while at the same time keeping all processes manageable. By carefully taking all these aspects into consideration, colleagues do not perceive us as cumbersome or overbearing ."

Minimising risks

“With this knowledge, we create procedures based on food safety standards and we register the requirements of our customer for each product. Sometimes, it is quite a challenge to converge these two aspects, especially if one of them changes. This is why we discuss the upcoming orders with the production managers and line operators of each shift, in the  morning and in the afternoon, and what requires their specific attention. This is how we limit the risk of errors."

Moving along flexibly

"As the quality department knows precisely which orders are expected and which supplies are necessary to fulfil them. We also notice immediately if something is amiss. For instance, a specific product may not have the correct weight or the delivery of a component may be short. Our team immediately consults with the customer about what needs to be done in such an instance. In short, we are the eyes and ears of our customer and the rest of our organisation moves along flexibly."

EcoNOMI

"At NOMI Co-Packing we also conscious about the environment. This is why we have set up the EcoNOMI-team to implement improvements throughout the company. For instance, we generate our own power using a large number of solar panels. We are also increasingly suggesting the use of environmentally friendly and recyclable materials to our customers. Where we were using a lot of plastic foils in the past, today we are using paper-based foils for an increasing number of customer. They are often more difficult to apply, but we consider this transition to be very important. We also stimulate suppliers to be conscious of the quantity and recyclability of their transport packaging. This way, we reduce the waste flow of plastic foil and pre-printed cases in the  cycle, while a the same time continuing to deliver top quality packaging.
