Knowledge assurance on the shop floor using
the TWI method
NOMI may have been around for over 35 years, but we’re never too old to learn!
NOMI is constantly working on both furthering its own development and that of its employees. A few weeks ago, we began the TWI method (Training Within Industry).
During its sessions, we learn how to systematically capture and transfer knowledge. Six of our colleagues learn how to write a standard training course and how to convey it to (new) colleagues.
Nomi Co-Packing places great value on speed (time-to-market), safety, and delivering top quality. By training some of our employees as TWI Writers & Trainers, we ensure that our employees are onboarded quickly, safely, and in a standardized manner. This enables everyone to perform tasks in the same way, allowing employees to cover for each other more effectively, maintaining the consistent quality of products you have come to expect from Nomi Co-Packing!
Jaap Traas, Continuous Improvement Coordinator, explains : "The TWI method has been applied for three weeks now. We are eager to learn about the initial impressions. At this moment, a pilot is being conducted where the written courses are taught to a random person within the organisation. This way, we are testing if the courses have been written with accuracy and our future TWI Trainers are discovering the most effective training tools. The TWI team is very enthusiastic and working hard to make this improvement. We are receiving positive feedback from them, and we are already outperforming of the set targets."
