A blockbottom bag is a packaging produced on a vertical forming, filling and sealing machine. The foil is pressed inwards just before sealing the bottom, giving the bag a rectangular shape. After filling, this allows the bag to remain upright.
Block bottom bags are usually produced with BOPP, PE. As monolaminates, these foils are easily recyclable. Besides these plastic foils, bioplastics or sealable paper can also be used to give the packaging an even more sustainable character.
The blockbottom bags can be filled with both unpackaged product as primary packaging, as well as packaged products, as secondary packaging for a multipack or product mix. For unpacked product, extra attention must be paid to the barrier properties of the selected foil.
